It's a baobab!

It's a baobab! I learned about the baobab trees in high school in 1955. After reading the book "The Little Prince," I thought it was just a imaginary tree. Boys, decades later, when I saw this tree on an internet search, I fell into another fantasy. Tree that lives for thousands of years, which gives its bark, leaves, fruits, flowers... with all the generosity! A tree full of grace that lets an elephant quench his thirst with its bark! No, more than that, I found it so enchanting that its roots seem to be standing skyward. It looked like it’s holding so many stories to tell. But I learned that nowadays they are in danger because of extreme drought. The baobabs of Madagascar are already in danger of extinction. I would like to talk to a baobab! I want to go to Africa.

바오밥이지? 내가 이 바오밥나무를 안건 1955년 중학생 때였지. 소설 <어린 왕자>를 읽고 그저 환상의 나무인 줄 알았어. [바오밥] 발음이 그랬어. 얘들아, 몇 십 년 후 인터넷 검색을 통해 이 나무를 보았을 때, 난 또다른 환상에 빠졌지. 수천 년을 사는 나무, 껍질, 잎, 열매, 꽃….모든 것을 ‘아낌없이 주는 나무’ ! 목마른 코끼리에게 껍질로 갈증을 면하게 해주는 은혜로운 나무!아니 그보다 뿌리가 하늘을 향해 서있는 듯한 모습이 신비스러웠어. 무언가 많은 이야기를 품고 있는 듯 했거든. 그런데 요즘 극심한 가뭄으로 인해 위기에 빠졌다는구나. 마다가스카르 바오밥은 멸종 위기란다. 바오밥과 이야기 나누고 싶구나! 아프리카로 가고 싶다.

É um baobá! Eu conhecí o baobá na época do ginásio em 1955. Após ler o conto "O Pequeno Príncipe", achei que fosse apenas uma árvore fantasiosa. Talvez pela sua pronúncia. Meninos, décadas após, quando vi esta árvore nas pesquisas da internet, mergulhei em outra fantasia. Árvore que vive milhares de anos, que dá sua casca, folhas, frutos, flores... com toda generosidade! Uma árvore cheia de graça que deixa um elefante sedento escapar da sede com a sua casca! Não... mais que isso... achei tão misterioso a sua forma que faz parecer que as raízes estão em pé em direção ao céu. Faz parece que ela guarda muitas histórias para contar. Mas hoje em dia elas estão passando perigo por causa da seca extrema. Os baobás de Madagascar já estão em perigo de extinção. Gostaria de conversar com um baobá! Eu Quero ir para a África.
